On November 5, 2022, Belt and Road The First Shenzhen University Bay Area Forum was held at Shenzhen University. The forum was sponsored by the China Center for Special Economic Zone Research (CCSEZR) and Research Institute (Shenzhen) for International Cooperation and Development (BRRI) and co-organized by Tongfang Co., Ltd., aiming at carrying out the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress and implementing high-quality development and high-level opening-up.

Prof. Tao chaired the opening ceremony of the forum. She is the former deputy secretary of the Party Committee of SZU and secretary of the committee for discipline inspection, director of CCSEZR (the key research base of humanities and social science under the Ministry of Education), and president of BRRI. Prof. Li Yonghua, Deputy President of SZU and Wu Dinghai, Director and Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of Shenzhen Academy of Social Sciences and President of Shenzhen Federation of Social Sciences lectured at the ceremony. Prof. Li Yonghua addressed that this forum is the first SZU Bay Area Forum, aiming at the illustration and research on the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress with the advantages of the Theoretical Economics discipline, and making contributions to build Shenzhen a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics and a model city in a great modern socialist country. Shenzhen University will stay committed to the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, and transfer it into conscious and firm execution. We will fully and faithfully accomplish the fundamental task of fostering character and civic virtue and implement the 14th Five-Year Plan, creating a world-class comprehensive university, and building a model university of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era. Guided by an innovative spirit, we will stimulate our inner vitality through reform, maintain opening-up and confidence, and put teachers and students at the center of everything we do. Secretary Wu Dinghai stressed that all sectors of Shenzhen are studying and implementing the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress comprehensively and systematically, applying Xi Jinping Thoughts on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era in all respects, in order to build a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and building a model city in a modern socialist country. As the core of SEZ study and Belt and Road research, CCSEZR and BRRI jointly launched a Bay Area Forum themed as high-quality development and high-level opening-up at the right time. Everyone is welcome to exchange insights on the academic platform, and provide thorough theoretical support to our research on the practice of Chinese modernization in Shenzhen and the deep integration of the Greater Bay Area. We also expect that our research fruits can be transformed into services for decision-making as soon as possible, and contribute to the high-quality development and high-level opening-up of Shenzhen.

Prof. Tao stated that this forum is a sub-forum of the first SZU Bay Area Forum, held at the conclusion of the 20th CPC National Congress. We hope to discuss the way to achieve high-quality development and explore the pattern of high-level opening-up, and learn from the pilot demonstration area and the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao's Greater Bay Area (GBA) for the establishment of a high-level socialist market economy system. On the ground of the theoretical basis and implementation direction, and institutional restraint and innovation, the forum discussed high-level opening-up and high-quality development through the construction of "Belt and Road" cooperation, GBA and pilot demonstration area in the context of the new stage, new concept and new pattern. The forum lasted one day, and the participants conducted in-depth research and discussion around the topic of "high-quality development and high-level opening-up", and a series of results have been achieved.
