On the morning of June 19, the 10th lecture of Heilongjiang University (HLJU) "Training Course on Theory and Practice of Higher Education Reform and Development Policy in the New Era" (the Training Course) was held in the lecture hall on the first floor of the main building at HLJU. The keynote speaker of this training course was an outstanding alumna of the Department of Economics who entered HLJU in 1979 - Prof. Tao Yitao, president of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Alumni Association, former deputy secretary of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of SZU. All the school leaders, middle management and leaders in section chief rank in HLJU participated in this training. Wang Yongqing, party secretary of HLJU, presided over the training.
Prior to the training, the school leaders held a brief talk with Prof. Tao Yitao, and the two sides exchanged views on how to further deepen the cooperation in related fields and enhance the level of cooperation in the future.

Grateful to her alma mater, Prof. Tao donated eight of her publications, including "China’s Path", "History of China's Special Economic Zones" and "Road to Reform and Innovation in Shenzhen 1978-2018", to HLJU library to share her academic findings with teachers and students at Heilongjiang University. At the donation ceremony before the lecture began, Xu Shihe, party branch secretary of the school library, accepted these books on behalf of the library and presented the donation certificate to Prof. Tao Yitao.

In the lecture, Prof. Tao first recalled her study and work experience at HLJU and expressed her deep love for her alma mater. Then she went into the topic of her lecture: "University Reform and Development of Shenzhen University", and introduced the history and current situation of SZU covering the development of academic disciplines, the introduction of high-quality talent, the construction of scientific research platforms and research bases, talent fostering, international exchanges, innovation and entrepreneurship, policy consultation services, industry-university-research cooperation, etc. She shared her own experience on the development and reform of universities while introducing the development practice of SZU, and hoped that HLJU would seize the opportunity, be bold in innovation, meet the challenges and make new breakthroughs.

Secretary Wang Yongqing expressed his heartfelt thanks to Prof. Tao Yitao for accepting the invitation to give this lecture and her long-term devotion and contribution to the development of HLJU. He said that the lecture was thought-provoking and inspiring. All departments at HLJU should combine the valuable experience offered in the lecture with their own realities. They should change their concept of work, and be more creative and energetic at work to earnestly advance and complete all tasks in accordance with the "13353" university development thought nailed down by the 11th Party Congress. At the same time, HLJU would invite more distinguished alumni to come back to deliver lectures, so as to build consensus and form a joint force to promote the development of HLJU.

It is reported that the HLJU Training Course has completed ten lectures since its establishment. It has effectively improved the understanding of national policies, professional competence, work ethic, management skills and Party spirit of all cadres and teachers at HLJU. At the same time, a range of thought-provoking lectures have continuously motivated them to think, explore for new ways and innovate.

Prof. Tao Yitiao, a famous expert on SEZs, and former deputy secretary of the Party Committee and Discipline Inspection Commission of SZU, currently serves as the director of CCSEZR (a key research base of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education), president of the Belt and Road Research Institute of SZU, and president of the Belt and Road Research Institute (Shenzhen) for International Cooperation and Development,. She is a special allowance expert of the State Council, the chief expert of major projects of the National Social Sciences Fund, and an expert in the panel discussion of the National Social Sciences Fund.
Research Fields
Prof. Tao Yitao is a researcher with academic clout both at home and abroad who has been engaged in the research of Chinese and western economic thoughts and theories for a long term, covering such fields as economic history, economic thought history and institutional economics. Over the past two decades, she has devoted herself to the history and the ideological history of China's reform and opening-up, the development of China's SEZs, and comparative studies of SEZs, FTAs and Bay Areas, etc. inside and outside China.
