On the afternoon of July 23, 2023, a 12-member delegation from the “Public Intellectuals Program (PIP)” of the National Committee on U.S. - China Relations (NCUSCR) visited the China Center for Special Economic Zone Research (CCSEZR). In the meeting, they exchanged views intensively on the achievements of Shenzhen's reform and opening-up and the experience of the construction of the Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
The National Committee on United States - China Relations, founded by the Ford Foundation and the Council on Foreign Relations in 1966, is a nonprofit, educational, and non-governmental organization, with the mission of promoting mutual understanding between the people of the United States and China. This meeting is on the schedule of the PIP, NCUSCR, aiming at bringing China into the American people's horizon, deepening and expanding their awareness of China's politics, economy, and society, and thus amplifying their voices on issues related to U.S.-China relations.

Director Tao welcomed the delegation’s visit. Then, they talked through the cooperation with Vietnam, Pakistan, and Africa in the development planning of special economic zones. Prof. Yuan Yiming and other experts and scholars also expressed their views on the early stage of Shenzhen SEZ's development and the challenges it is facing currently.

Members of the delegation attended the meeting were Prof. Susan Whiting of the Department of Political Science at the University of Washington, Ms. Jan Berris, Vice President of NCUSCR, Prof. Martin Dimitrov of the Department of Political Science at Tulane University, and Associate Prof. Denise Ho of the Department of History at Yale University.
