On July 6, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., all the students of the 2024 Shenzhen University (SZU) Summer School on "Frontier Theories and Methodologies in Economics" visited the China Merchants History Museum in Shekou to learn about the development history of Shenzhen and China Merchants Group.
Led by the staff of China Merchants History Museum, students were acquainted minutely with the 150-year development history of China Merchants Group. The China Merchants, the epitome of the Chinese nation who achieved a tremendous transformation from standing up and growing prosperous to becoming strong, and Reform and Opening up, the practice sample of key maneuver for bringing about China's great national rejuvenation, are vivid examples of providing China's wisdom and solutions for the world.
At 4:00 p.m., students went to the Qianhai Administrative Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality to get themselves informed about the present and future development planning of Qianhai and Shenzhen.
At the Qianhai International Convention Center, students visited the exhibition “From Pilot to Demonstration - Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone”. Guangdong acts as an important window to show the achievements of China's reform and opening up, and also a critical window for the international community to pay attention to China's reform and opening up, while Shenzhen is the "window" of Guangdong. Through the visit, students figured out the stupendous changes and successful practices Shenzhen Special Economic Zone had gone through in the past 40 years.
At 5:00 p.m., students went to Qianhai Stone Park. Having witnessed the transformation of Qianhai, the Qianhai Stone is a significant landmark of "setting out again for reform and opening-up", where General Secretary Xi Jinping issued a call to set out again for reform and opening up in the new era.
Through visiting the China Merchants History Museum in Shekou, Qianhai Administrative Bureau and Qianhai Stone Park, the students gained a comprehensive and systematic comprehension of Shenzhen’s development, broadened their horizons of theoretical learning, and enriched their knowledge of the development of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.
