On the afternoon of September 29, the appointment ceremony for Prof. Liu Hong, Associate Vice President of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, was held in Huiyuan Building. The ceremony was attended by Prof. Zhang Xiaohong, Vice President of Shenzhen University (SZU), Prof. Tao Yitao, Director of China Center for Special Economic Zone Research (CCSEZR), SZU, Prof. Tian Qibo, Director of the Social Science Department, Prof. Zhang Kai, President of Shenzhen Audencia Financial Technology Institute, Prof. Yuan Yiming and Deputy Director Zhang Ping of CCSEZR, SZU, Prof. Li Donghui and Prof. Wu Fenglan of the School of Economics of SZU. Prof. Tao officiated the online and offline appointment ceremonies simultaneously. Vice President Zhang Xiaohong issued the letter of appointment to Prof. Liu Hong via the Internet.
At the appointment ceremony, Prof. Tao, first introduced Prof. Liu Hong's academic achievements. Later, she expressed that Prof. Liu Hong's joining will expand the subject research field of CCSEZR from the study of China's special economic zones (SEZs) to the comparative study of cross-regional SEZs, especially including the study of SEZs in Southeast Asian countries, the history of Southeast Asia and other relevant disciplines. As the fifth visiting professor appointed by CCSEZR, Prof. Liu Hong will contribute to the development of CCSEZR and the discipline of theoretical economics, thus making the academic composition of theoretical economics more diversified and international.
Prof. Liu Hong spoke highly of the development and achievements of CCSEZR. He pointed out that Shenzhen is the pioneer of China's reform and opening-up, and has played a very important role in China's implementation of innovation and entrepreneurship and integration into globalization. While leveraging its geographical advantages, CCSEZR has exerted profound academic influence both in and outside of China through the groundbreaking work of Prof. Tao and other scholars in various fields. Prof. Liu Hong felt honored to be appointed the visiting professor of CCSEZR. He said that he would make the best of this opportunity to deepen research topics with the scholars of CCSEZR, explore new development models with Chinese characteristics, and promote them globally. This will undoubtedly contribute to the development of SZU, and most importantly enable the international academic community to gain a better understanding of China's development.
Vice President Zhang Xiaohong indicated that Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is the world's fastest rising university and one of the young universities with the highest research intensity and the greatest global impact. Prof. Liu was appointed as the president of both the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Public Policy & Management in 2011. This year, he was appointed as the Associate President of NTU. It goes without saying that Professor Liu is an exemplary model of scholarly leadership. Vice President Zhang expressed the hope that CCSEZR, as a leader in the building of our university's think tank, an incubator for discipline development, and a trailblazer in international research, would continue to maintain its pioneering and leading advantages with the promotion and participation of Prof. Liu Hong, and blossom on multiple fronts such as scientific research, social services, and talent fostering.
The ceremony was successfully concluded amid applause from both the online and offline attendees. Prof. Tao concluded by saying that she looked forward to Prof. Liu Hong coming to Shenzhen and visiting SZU after the epidemic stabilizes to give lectures for the faculty and students of the School of Theoretical Economics and the whole university.

Prof. Liu Hong is currently Associate Vice President of NTU, President of the Nanyang Graduate School of Public Policy & Management, Tan Lark Sye Chair Professor (Public Policy and Global Affairs) School of Social Sciences and Changjiang Scholar Chair Professor Fellowship of the Ministry of Education of China. He was once Chair Professor, Department of East Asian Studies and Founding Director, Center for Chinese Studies, University of Manchester, UK. He is currently the editor-in-chief of Public Governance in Asia and Journal of Chinese Overseas. He has published more than 20 monographs and over 100 academic papers in international academic journals in English, Chinese, Japanese, French and Dutch. His recent works in Chinese include Commercial Networks and Business Behaviors: Studies in Global Chinese Entrepreneurship, Logics of Transnational Governance and Asian Practices, Dear China: Emigrant Letters and Remittances (1820-1980); recent works in English include The Political Economy of Transnational Governance: China and Southeast Asia in the 21st Century, Research Handbook on the Belt and Road Initiative, and The Political Economy of Regionalism, Trade, and Infrastructure.
