2022-12-26

On November 3, Zheng Lidian, a 2019 Ph.D. student in Theoretical Economics at the China Center for Special Economic Zone Research (CCSEZR), SZU, published an article in People's Daily (Theoretical Edition) titled "Improving People's Livelihood and Forming New Growth Drivers- The Belt and Road Initiative Presents Opportunities for Digital Transformation".
The article points out that, with the thriving of a new round of sci-tech revolution and industrial transformation, new technologies involving the Internet, big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and blockchain accelerate their applications in all industries. The Belt and Road cooperation also presents new era features, creating precious opportunities for economic development and industrial digital transformation.
Firstly, many of the countries participating in the "Belt and Road" cooperation are developing countries ones with poor digital infrastructure.
Jointly building the Belt and Road embraces the trend of national economic development and digital transformation of industries, and meets people's longing for a better life.
For one thing, throughout the cooperation, Chinese enterprises give play to the superiority of their digital technology and advanced management experience. They provide digital services, work with participants to build excellent digital infrastructure, cultivate digital talents, and effectively improved the digital skills and qualities of their workforce. For another, it is also an essential platform for cultural exchanges.
Different countries can present and exchange their cultural products through digital ways, and people from all over the world can enjoy cross-culture communication, learning and consumption through the mobile Internet.
Secondly, with the advent of data, a new factor of production, the digital economy has been injected with new drivers. It constantly gives rise to new industries, new forms of business and new models, and empowering digital transformation and upgrading to traditional industries.
In the past few decades, cooperation has been strengthened between China and the participating countries in e-commerce, trade platform services, and smart logistics, and the key digital infrastructure construction has accelerated. Thanks to the cooperation, relative countries not only shared the huge dividends of China's digital economy development, but also promoted their economic development and industrial digital transformation process by effectively expanding the regional digital economy dividend.
Finally, we need to further promote the construction of the digital "Belt and Road" through the following aspects: First, strengthen communication and coordination at all levels to promote the effective docking of national digital economy development strategies. Second, deepen exchanges, cooperation and communications in data security protection and digital economy governance rule-making. Third, reach more consensus on digital economy governance, and data security protection to create a favorable environment for digital transformation.
