On the afternoon of September 16, 2022, the welcome party for 2022 Graduate Students in Theoretical Economics was held in Huiwen Building, Yuehai Campus, Shenzhen University (SZU). Attending the party were Prof. Tao Yitao, Director of CCSEZR and Leader of the Discipline of Theoretical Economics, Prof. Jiang An, Ph.D. advisor in Theoretical Economics and Professor of Marxism College, Prof. Xu Xiaoguang, Ph.D. advisor in Theoretical Economics and Director of the Department of Finance at the College of Economics, Prof. Li Fan, Deputy Director of CCSEZR and Ph.D. advisor, Prof. Zhang Ping, Deputy Director of CCSEZR, Associate Professor and Ph.D. advisor, Prof. Yuan Yiming, Ph.D. advisor of CCSEZR, Prof. Zhong Ruoyu and Prof. Liu Weili, Prof. Yang Wen, Ph.D. advisor in Theoretical Economics and Associate Professor in the College of Economics, leaders of CCSEZR, counselors, head teachers and 2022 new students. At the party, all the teachers and students watched the promotional video of the World Special Economic Zones Development Forum and a short video “Thinkers in Liyuan” filmed by CCSEZR. Deputy Director Li Fan delivered a speech to introduce the historical inheritance, disciplinary development, scientific research, academic brands and faculty team of the “Six institutes and two colleges “, sharing the overview of 2022 new students, the employment and further education of 2022 graduates.

Wang Fuli expressed her enjoyment and expectations of the new life in SZU, and recalled her efforts and longings when preparing for the exam. As a one-year experience head teacher of doctoral students, Miao Lu extended warm welcome and great expectations to new students on behalf of all teachers. She encouraged students to keep their passion for conducting academic research, and finding and solving problems. She also offered the following suggestions: First, exchange ideas with advisors constantly and get along with other students. Second, improve physical and mental wellness, and clear yourself of negative emotions. Third, abide by the rules and regulations of SZU. Stay committed to the academic standards and ethics in particular, cherish your reputation and hold the academic bottom line rigorously.

Prof. Yuan Yiming expected students to take to Economics, a glamorous discipline that can explain how the world operates. As a cohesive community with a strong team of faculty and advisors, CCSEZR values both strictness in academic research and freedom, equality and inclusiveness in academic culture. With the geographical advantage of the Greater Bay Area and Shenzhen, the window of the world, students have the opportunity to discover interesting economic phenomena through CCSEZR and SZU. At the end of his speech, Prof. Yuan wished students a happy life, fruitful achievements and smooth graduation.

Prof. Jiang An explained that the team of Theoretical Economics symbolized the academic high ground of SZU, and Director Tao Yitao, leader of the discipline, is a significant representative of the academic sector of Theoretical Economics in Guangdong province, even in China. He pointed out that different views on Economics reflected different values and positions. To keep track of the Chinese economy, one must get familiar with the Communist Party of China, learn its history and the socialist market economy with Chinese characteristics, and reflect on the appropriate direction for the development of the Chinese economy in the context of the new era and globalization. He urged students to be diligent and make progress in the next three years.

Prof. Liu Weili gave her best wishes to students for their new life chapter, hoping students could be down-to-earth in their studies, and explore social science research. Assistant Professor Ma Limei talked as the representative of master advisors. She believed CCSEZR is an open academic platform with a strong team of faculty and advisors, underpinning SZU's philosophy and social sciences and humanities. She hoped students to leave a persistent striving figure in their regretless youth, and a special mark with CCSEZR in the competition of new graduate students, and write more colorful chapters.

Deputy Director Zhang Ping introduced “Yifeng-Jiebubao Scholarship”, set for Theoretical Economics by Jiebubao. The scholarship totaling RMB 5 million will be donated to CCSEZR, SZU by Chairman Liang Yingyi on behalf of Shenzhen Jiebubao Sports Technology Co., Ltd. The scholarship selection rules will be announced recently. It is planned to select outstanding undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral scholarships, overseas visiting fellowships and funding quotas for attending high-end academic conferences, and set a certain percentage of scholarships and quotas for industry research, aiming at carrying out industry-university-research cooperation to facilitate the industrialization of scientific research achievements. Students are anticipated to go steadily and surely, dedicating themselves to scientific research for notable outcomes, and benefit the most from the scholarship.

Ms. Liang Yingyi made a speech as the scholarship donor. She shared two mottoes of her father Liang Linbing, a patriotic entrepreneur, "God helps those who help themselves" and “Check erroneous ideas at the outset”. They are the working spirit of the employees in Jiebubao, and can also be life principles of SZU students. "Capabilities are opportunities". She hoped students could work hard to develop their skills and win opportunities for themselves. Chairman Liang also introduced Hongkong Yifeng Group and the helmet brand of Jiebubao to overseas students in English, expecting the scholarship can inspire their creativity for the innovation and development of the helmet industry.

Prof. Tao Yitao first welcomed new students for breathing new life into the Discipline of Theoretical Economics. She stated that “Yifeng-Jiebubao Scholarship” was the first social scholarship Theoretical Economics, CCSEZR has received. It was not only an encouragement for students’ research and studies, but also a spiritual inheritance of entrepreneurs’ giving back to society. She reviewed the long history of the founding and development of Theoretical Economics, especially the struggling course of the founder Prof. Su Dongbin and other predecessors during the development of the doctoral program. Nowadays, enveloped by an open and inclusive academic spirit and atmosphere, CCSEZR has published Blue Book and collected papers on Special Economic Zones, launched various exchange activities such as Ph.D. salon and Academic Luncheon for Young Teachers, and built quality facilities like Su Dongbin Library, Liberal Arts Laboratory and Activity Room for Graduate Students, for a better learning environment. She hoped students could make great achievements in the future and grow with CCSEZR.
