On the evening of August 24, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Guangzhou, China held a reception to celebrate the 77th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day at the Garden Hotel in Guangzhou. Prof. Tao Yitao was invited by Mr. Vũ Việt Anh, the Consul General of Vietnam in Guangzhou, China, as an important guest to attend the reception for Vietnam's National Day. Prof. Tao is director of China Center for Special Economic Zone Research (CCSEZR), a key research base of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education, and also director of the Belt and Road Institute for International Cooperation and Development (Shenzhen) (BRII). More than one hundred people attended the event, including Mr. Luo Jun and Ms. Liu Liu, Deputy Directors of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province, diplomatic envoys in Guangzhou, representatives of enterprises investing in Vietnam and staff from the Vietnamese Consulate General in Guangzhou.
At the reception, Mr. Vũ Việt Anh introduced the basic situation of Vietnam's recent economic and social development to the audience. He said that in recent years, Vietnam has made significant achievements in developing its economy and society and improving people's living standards. The trade volume between Vietnam and China has surged from $30 million in 1991 to $230 billion in 2021. He also highly appreciated China's full support to Vietnam in terms of health supplies and vaccines when COVID-19 broke out in Vietnam and the world. As a bridge between Guangdong and Vietnamese provinces and cities, the Consulate General of Vietnam will endeavor to boost cooperation and share development opportunities between units and enterprises of both sides in various fields, to play its full role in making practical contributions to the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries as an effective link.
Mr. Luo Jun said that in recent years, bilateral trade volume has been expanding and economic exchanges have been developing rapidly, promoting the healthy development of good neighborly and friendly relations and comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Vietnam. In 2021, total bilateral trade volume was $230.2 billion, up 19.7% year-on-year. China's exports to Vietnam were $137.93 billion and imports were $92.27 billion, up 21.2% and 17.6% respectively. He also stated that Guangdong Province will actively collaborate under the "Two Corridors and One Economic Belt" Initiative proposed by the Vietnamese government, further utilize the existing cooperation and coordination mechanisms, continuously expand the scope of two-way trade and accelerate the process of infrastructure connectivity, to promote economic growth and identify the potential for cooperation in new business and new driving forces, in a bid to better benefit the economic and social development of the two countries. It is believed that with the support of the leaders of the two countries and the joint efforts of the people on both sides, Guangdong and Vietnam will see more fruitful cooperation and create a better future for their peoples.
