On November 14, 2021, the Theoretical Economics PhD graduation defense of Shenzhen University (SZU) in the second half of 2021 was held in Huiyuan Building. The defense chairman was Prof. Kong Ying, Director of the Department of Social Science and Management of the International Graduate School of Tsinghua University, and the external member of the defense committee was Associate Prof. Ren Ting, Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Dean of Peking University HSBC Business School. Internal members of the defense committee were Prof. Tao Yitao (Director of the China Center for Special Economic Zone Research, Shenzhen University and the leader of the discipline of Theoretical Economics), Prof. Zhou Zhimin (Deputy Dean of the School of Management of SZU), and Prof. Wu Fenglan (School of Economics of SZU). A total of five PhD students in Theoretical Economics participated in the defense.
Prof. Kong Ying is a renowned management economist; Ph.D. in Economics, Department of Economics, Carleton University, Canada; Tenured Professor of York University, Canada; Professor and Ph.D. Supervisor of Tsinghua University; Academic Leader of the Low Carbon Economy and Financial Risk Analysis Laboratory, Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute; Director of the Department of Social Science and Management, Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School; He was appointed as a special expert of the Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs of the State Council of China; an invited researcher of the Department of Industrial Economics of the Development Research Center of the State Council; a special expert of the Westlaw Round Table Group expert network; an expert of the Shenzhen Decision Advisory Committee; Chairman of the World Alliance for Low Carbon Cities, etc. Associate Prof. Ren Ting is Secretary of Party Committee and Deputy Dean of Peking University HSBC Business School; Director of Institute for Enterprise Development; PhD Supervisor; PhD in Human Resources and Industrial Relations, University of Minnesota; Expert of Shenzhen Pilot Demonstration Zone; Vice President of Shenzhen Statistical Society; Vice President of Shenzhen Institutional Reform Research Society; Vice President of Shenzhen Young Science and Technology Talents Association. Sun Liangzhu and Huang Jingru (PhD students in Theoretical Economics), Yang Hui (PhD student in Institutional Innovation and Cultural Creativity of secondary discipline outside the catalog), and Shahid Mahmood and Saqib Zulkaif Ahmed (two international PhD students in Management Science and Economic Decision-making) participated in the defense. Among them, the two international PhD students participated online. The defense committee carefully examined and asked questions about the dissertations of the five students, and all five PhD students successfully passed their PhD defense.
