On the afternoon of October 8, 2021, the China Center for Special Economic Zone Research (CCSEZR), Shenzhen University (SZU), a key research base of humanities and social science under the Ministry of Education, held a welcome party for the Class of 2021 graduate students in Theoretical Economics in the No.3 lecture hall of Huixing Building. Attending the party were Prof. Tao Yitao, Director of CCSEZR, Prof. Lu Zhiguo, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Economics, Prof. Yuan Yiming, Deputy Director of CCSEZR, Prof. Li Fan, Deputy Director of CCSEZR, Prof. Zhong Ruoyu, tutors and new graduate students of 2021 in Theoretical Economics, and 35 newly enrolled postdoctors. At the party, all the teachers and students first watched a promotion video of the World Special Economic Zones Development Forum. Following the video, Prof. Yuan Yiming briefly introduced to the newly enrolled graduate students of the Class of 2021 in Theoretical Economics the CCSEZR and the first-level discipline doctoral program of Theoretical Economics, elaborating on aspects including the development milestone, institutional setup, academic team, discipline standing, research fields, six academic brands of CCSEZR, international academic exchange, talent fostering, and postdoctoral base development. The CCSEZR boasts a strong faculty, high-caliber research, a complete training system for "master, doctoral and postdoctoral" talented people, and a variety of academic exchange platforms, which underpins students' academic and professional growth. Deputy Director Yuan Yiming then welcomed the new students, hoping that they could grow along with this influential institution and contribute to its development.

Representatives of senior students and outstanding graduates in Theoretical Economics shared their study experience with the new ones. Doctoral student Zhao Peiyang of the Class of 2019, as a representative of senior students, introduced the abundant research resources of the university, convenient living conditions, and scholarships from the three aspects of study, life, and work, and encouraged students to serve on the class committee and Party branch committee, participate more in public benefit activities, and make their own contributions as the young generation to this new era. Dr. Xu Bingjie, an outstanding representative of the graduates of the Class of 2016, is now a postdoctor at Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School. She recalled that as a cross-major student, she had received a lot of tolerance and support from the program and tutors. She also shared her two-year experience on an exchange program in the USA, encouraging students to make full use of SZU resources, attend more academic conferences in and outside of China, and cherish the time of studying at the CCSEZR.

A Class of 2019 overseas doctoral student representative from Kazakhstan, Elzhana Mangazbayeva, also shared online her good experience during doctoral study. She said Shenzhen is a city with a good climate, developed economy, convenient transportation, and sound infrastructure. At SZU, students can make friends with people from all over the world. With regard to some inconvenience encountered by international students on campus, the faculty members and staff of SZU always offer their full support and help.

Prof. Zhong Ruoyu also speaks on behalf of the doctoral tutors in Theoretical Economics. Prof. Zhong recalled part of the history of SZU since its founding in 1983 and the momentum with which SZU has been rapidly developing at the "Shenzhen speed". He also reminisced about the founder of the CCSEZR, Prof. Su Dongbin. Prof. Zhong Ruoyu hoped that students could be down-to-earth in life, in doing things, and in study, have great ideals, carry out cutting-edge research, and also follow major realistic issues in economic and social development.

Assistant Professor Ma Limei, representing the tutors for master's students, said that the CCSEZR has a rich academic atmosphere, outstanding research team, a broad international vision, and an important clout in the SEZ study. She added that the CCSEZR encourages multidisciplinary research based on Theoretical Economics. Ms. Ma encouraged students to make a proper study and research plan, embrace new challenges at CCSEZR where they can enjoy freedom of thinking, and achieve innovative breakthroughs.

Subsequently, Prof. Tao Yitao, Director of the CCSEZR, delivered a speech. Prof. Tao said Theoretical Economics is SZU's earliest approved doctoral program and also the earliest approved liberal art discipline of the postdoctoral program, and CCSEZR is the only think tank studying SEZ issues among the 151 key research bases for humanities and social science under the Ministry of Education. There is a lot of history and stories behind the development of CCSEZR and the Theoretical Economics program CCSEZR has fostered many thinkers and continues fostering new ones. It has made history and is continuously exploring the future. The fruitful achievements of this program and CCSEZR would not have been possible without the efforts and dedication of academic predecessors, who devoted not only love but also their entire lifetime. Prof. Tao also paid special tribute to the discipline founder Prof. Su Dongbin, introducing to the students Prof. Su's profound academic insights, great academic achievements, and touching stories of his tireless devotion to building and developing this discipline. Prof. Tao Yitao said that how far a nation can look back and learn from history determines how it will fare in the future. The reason why we recall the development history of the Theoretical Economics program is not only to remember those who once worked so hard for it, but more importantly to find out how we can do things right today so that we could be worthy of our predecessors' hard work, live up to their expectations, and turn history into our momentum to go forward. Prof. Tao also recalled her own study experience as a doctoral student, and she shared the "Palace Wall" instructions given by her beloved teacher Prof. Hu Jichuang to encourage students to be humble in life and practical in study and be a person with knowledge, love, character, a sense of responsibility, and devotion. At last, Prof. Tao Yitao said, wherever we go today, we must not forget where we came from. Theoretical Economics is our common spiritual homeland, where we can not only acquire knowledge but also gain a culture and a spirit. He hoped that students could make full use of the platform of the CCSEZR, keep in mind the development history of the Program, enhance their cohesion and team spirit, and jointly create a brighter future.

In the end, Prof. Gao Xingmin, Deputy Director of CCSEZR, introduced the student work of the Yuehai Campus, the postgraduate management personnel. He also introduced Assistant Professor Hou Jia, head teacher for the master class, and Assistant Professor Miao Lu, head teacher for the doctoral class. He hoped that students could maintain close contact with the head teachers, communicate with them on academic planning, physical and psychological health, and have independent character and self-discipline spirit.
