Prof. Tao Heads a Delegation to Visit Cambodia

    On the afternoon of March 21, 2019, Prof. Tao Yitao headed a delegation of 20 alumni young entrepreneurs from Shenzhen University (SZU) to pay a visit to the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia at its invitation when attending the 2nd session of “Lancang-Mekong Week”.  Prof. Tao is the director of the China Center for Special Economic Zone Research (CCSEZR) of SZU, dean of the “Belt and Road” Research Institute of SZU, dean of the Belt and Road Research Institute (Shenzhen) for International Cooperation (BRRIIC) and vice chairperson of Shenzhen Foundation for International Exchange and Cooperation (SFIEC). Huang Shun, the chairman of the Alumni Association of SZU, is the deputy head of the delegation. Attending this meeting were Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce of Cambodia, Mr. TeaKong, Deputy Minister and the Cambodian Minister-Counselor to China, and other officials from the Ministry of Commerce. Mr. Pan Sorasak first extended a warm welcome to Prof. Tao's delegation. He believed that the visit of young entrepreneurs foretells the bright future of the friendship, and cooperation between China and Cambodia.

    Mr. Pan Sorasak introduced business environment and the favorable policies of Cambodia to attract foreign investments, and expressed his wish to welcome Chinese entrepreneurs to Cambodia to invest and start a business. He said that Cambodian government will provide the most favorable policies and convenient services for them.
     Prof. Tao introduced SZU and the background and achievements of the enterprises of major members from the delegation, and spoke highly of the achievements made by Sihanoukville. She said that the current pace and passion of Sihanoukville's development reminded her of Shenzhen 40 years ago. Furthermore, Prof. Tao also shared her experience and feelings about her previous visits to Cambodia, stating that the China Center for Special Economic Zone Research (CCSEZR) SZU, a think tank dedicated to the issue of Special Economic Zones (SEZs), is willing to provide China's wisdom and experience for the SEZ development in Cambodia. Mr. Pan Sorasak spoke highly of Prof. Tao's viewpoints and stated that the successful experience of Shenzhen SEZ offers direction for the development of Cambodia. In addition, he expressed his keen interest in Tencent Group,  an enterprise founded by an alumnus of SZU.

   The meeting was held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, and Mr. Pan Sorasak raised his expectation that CCSEZR and BRRIIC would provide training for the cadres of Cambodian party and government. Prof. Tao responded that she will give a serious consideration to minister’s proposal and invited Mr. Pan Sorasak to pay a visit to SZU at his earliest convenience for a further discussion about the fields that the two sides have potential.
