On the afternoon of November 29, 2018, a 39-member delegation led by Chawla Kanchu, professor and president of the Institute of Administration of Royal Society of Thailand, visited Shenzhen University and had a meeting with scholars of the China Center for Special Economic Zone Research (CCSEZR). Prof. Yuan Yiming, deputy director of the CCSEZR, Shenzhen University, presided over the meeting which was attended by deputy director and Prof. Gao Xingmin, associate professor Zhang Ping, and teachers of Huang Yiheng and Ma Limei.
Teacher Ma Limei introduced the delegation to the basic information of the CCSEZR, Shenzhen University, including its development history, staff/faculty composition, accomplishments and international academic cooperation. The delegation also gave a brief introduction to the basic information on Royal Society of Thailand and its members at the meeting. The delegation primarily consists of Thailand government officials and leaders of air, land and sea armies, including officials of Thailand's Ministry of Defense, officials of Royal Thai Army, deputy general manager of Bangkok Palace Hotel and president of Tipakorn.
The delegation said that they are deeply impressed by the rapid development of Shenzhen and tremendous contributions made by Shenzhen University to the society, and really look forward to more and deeper exchanges with the CCSEZR so as to study the experience gained in the construction and development of China's Special Economic Zones. In addition, they intended to know about the challenges in the development of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and the key reasons for its rapid development as Thailand has established its special economic zone -- Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and planned to start the construction work since 2017.
Prof. Yuan Yiming indicated that the infrastructure that underpins SEZ development and opening-up to the outside world are the most essential factors that enabled Shenzhen SEZ to be creative throughout reform and opening-up, and to constantly make new attempts and pursue reforms for rapid economic development.
Prof. Gao Xingmin highlighted to the delegation the significance of "people" in the SEZ development as time, place and people are three essential conditions for the development of an SEZ. Shenzhen satisfy the first two conditions by being one of the first batch of pilot cities of reform and opening-up and adjacent to Hong Kong. As for the last and also the most important condition, Shenzhen prides itself in the adventurous and innovative people who govern the city and extraordinary talent from all over the country who make great Both sides look forward to further exchanges and cooperation in the near future. The meeting was successfully concluded in a friendly atmosphere after both sides granted a university plaque to each other.
