The book " Why Does Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Shenzhen Stand Out??" fleshes itself out based on Shenzhen's first “mass entrepreneurship and innovation” research report. By combining the UN's "Three-Dimension Innovation Environment Assessment System" (support, capability and value) with the actual situation of Shenzhen, it suggests that Shenzhen presents a distinct "tower-shaped mass entrepreneurship and innovation system” determined by the “innovation” factor endowment, namely, the tower-shaped innovation and entrepreneurship structural system composed of the "tower base (innovation foundation), tower body (innovation body) and tower spire (innovation direction)". The most important reason for Shenzhen to take the lead in realizing city innovation lies in the fact that the innate advantage of ownership and production structure with private enterprises as the main body and high-tech industries as the mainstay takes shape almost in tandem with Shenzhen’s growth. The experience of "mass entrepreneurship and innovation" that can be replicated and promoted is to continuously improve the tower base, cultivate the tower body and motivate the tower spire with the innovation force of the system.
This book analyzes and compares the sampling data of eight typical cities including Shenzhen, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Suzhou. It does not only expound the institutional performance achieved by Shenzhen during the "mass entrepreneurship and innovation" process, but also provides a path reference for innovative countries to realize their own goals. At present, the academic team led by Prof. Tao Yitao has undertaken the writing of the Annual Report on the Development of China's Innovation and Entrepreneurship (Blue Book).
