On the morning of October 27, Mr. Stanislav Prokofiev, the Rector of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation (Financial University), and his delegation visited Shenzhen University (SZU) and China Center for Special Economic Zone Research (CCSEZR). Among the group were Ms. Ekaterina Kameneva, the Vice Rector for Educational and Methodological Work of the Financial University, Mr. Grigorii Ostapenko, the Vice-Rector for Digitalization of the Financial University, Ms. Liliya Prikhodko, the Head of International Relations Office of the Financial University, and Mr. Sergey Shakhrai, the Dean of the Faculty of International Economic Relations of the Financial University. Prof. Zhang Xueji, Vice President of SZU, warmly received the delegation of Russian guests on behalf of SZU. During the reception, Prof. Zhang Xueji was also accompanied by Prof. Tao Yitao, Director of CCSEZR and President of the Belt and Road Research Institute (Shenzhen) for International Cooperation and Development (BRRI), Prof. Li Fan, Deputy Director of CCSEZR, Dr. Wang Yanming, President of the “Belt and Road Initiative Russia and Central Asia Trade Union”, Mr. Wang Chen, Director of the Office of BRRI, and Mr. Chen Zicheng, Assistant of President of BRRI.
Prof. Zhang Xueji expressed a warm welcome on behalf of SZU to the delegation led by Mr. Stanislav Prokofiev and introduced an overview of SZU to the guests. He said that SZU was founded in 1983, and this year marks the 40th anniversary of SZU. Over the past 40 years, SZU has achieved rapid development relying on Shenzhen special economic zone and has become a local comprehensive university with complete disciplines, perfect facilities, excellent faculty and staff and standardized management. In recent years, SZU has introduced many full-time academicians, top talents and other high-caliber talents, which significantly enhanced its scientific research and teaching strength. In addition to developing research-oriented high-caliber talents, SZU also emphasizes the development of application-oriented talents. Relying on its College of Continuing Education, SZU has launched various programs such as multi-level talent development or training with all aspects of society, university-business cooperation, and industry-university-research cooperation. All these aspects are at the forefront of the country, resulting in fruitful talent development and gratifying student employment.
In addition, Prof. Zhang Xueji specially introduced CCSEZR and BRRI. He pointed out that, as the only university think tank on SEZ issues among the key research bases of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education of China, CCSEZR has made unique contributions in introducing the successful experience of China’s special economic zones (SEZs) represented by Shenzhen and providing emerging market economies with Chinese solutions to the problems of during development. It also serves as an important base for theoretical economics at SZU.
Mr. Stanislav Prokofiev expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Zhang Xueji for the warm reception, and expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the rapid development of SZU and admiration for the achievements in discipline construction, introduction of faculty team, and development of talents. He also introduced the advantages and characteristics of the Financial University.
He stated that both China and Russia have a long history and a deep heritage in culture, art and education, and expressed his desire to further strengthen cooperation. He hoped that this visit would deepen exchanges and cooperation between China and Russia in the fields of culture, art and education, and promote mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples. He formally invited SZU to arrange a delegation to attend the 105th anniversary of the Financial University next year.
At the end of the meeting, Prof. Zhang Xueji, on behalf of SZU, and Mr. Stanislav Prokofiev signed a memorandum of cooperation between SZU and the Financial University in three languages: Chinese, English and Russian.
