"Shenzhen's Exploration of the Chinese Modernization - Shenzhen in the Past Decade Series Book Launch & Academic Seminar" Held in Beijing
Prof. Yuan Yiming, Deputy Director of the Center for the Study of China's Special Economic Zones, Shenzhen University:
build an economic system where “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”.
Shenzhen in the Past Decade is a multi-dimensional and systematic summary of Shenzhen's historical achievements in the decade of the new era. Over the years, Shenzhen has stayed committed to "putting priorities on ecology", strengthening the development orientation of ecology, and exploring sustainable development with Chinese characteristics and Shenzhen characteristics in the new era. The reference value for the coordinated development of Shenzhen's ecological economy lies in lifting out of the dilemma of ecological construction and economic growth, which can effectively interpret the fundamental motive of "why and for whom", make clear the ways and means of "who shall be responsible and how to achieve it", and explain the value attributes of "what is it and what to do".
Ecological civilization in the new era follows the laws of nature, responds to the history of economic society, and shows respect for the rule of scientific development. The old way of "pollution first and then treatment" should be discarded. From now on, we must adhere to the basic principle of "protection first and then development" and the concept of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets".
In the past ten years, Shenzhen has accelerated the establishment of a sound ecological economic system with the industrialization of the ecological environment and eco-friendly industrial development at its core, as the key to breaking through the contradiction between ecology and economy. In the system, the anti-driving mechanism, guidance mechanism, value motivative mechanism, and assessment mechanism will together to help Shenzhen build an economic system where “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”.
By building an ecological civilization system, Shenzhen will improve the economy and its development efficiency, and form an industrial structure, production and lifestyle, spatial pattern, and governance structure that conserves resources and protects the environment, so as to achieve the goal of a beautiful China. In the process of breaking through the contradiction between economic growth and ecological construction, Shenzhen takes the ecological culture system as the foundation, the ecological economic system as the core, the target responsibility system as the focus, the ecological civilization institution as the guarantee, the ecological security system as the bottom line, to show Shenzhen’s practice of ecological environmental protection and ecological civilization construction in the new era, sketching out a road map that Shenzhen continues to advance the construction of ecological civilization system.

Content Introduction:
The book constructs and applies the research paradigm of Ideology (Theory) - Practice - Effectiveness - Experience to establish the logical analysis structure of Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization guiding Shenzhen's practice, practice creating development achievements, and development achievements generating general experience for reference. Through the research methods of data presentation, measurement model, and case dissection, the book answered the question of how the relationship between ecological environment and economic growth can be transformed from substitution to coordinated development through Shenzhen's practice under Xi Jinping's Thought on Ecological Civilization. Based on the situation of developing countries, the book reveals the widespread existence of the substitution relationship between ecological environment and economic growth. Through the coordinated trajectory of realization of economic growth and environmental optimization, it summarizes the practical experience and value of Shenzhen’s practices. From the two dimensions of the world's "China Wisdom" and China's "Shenzhen Model", the book systematically elaborates and analyzes the theoretical and practical basis for urgently breaking the paradox of ecological environment and economic growth.
