ASEAN Media’s Perspective on China
On the morning of February 23, 2023, correspondent representatives of ASEAN mainstream media in China, together with press representatives from China Daily and Shenzhen Press Group visited the China Center for Special Economic Zone Research, Shenzhen University and the Belt and Road Research Institute (Shenzhen). Prof. Tao Yitao, Director of CCSEZR and President of BRRI, warmly received them. Mr. Yun Wenjie, the distinguished researcher of BRRI, also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, Prof. Tao presented a rousing welcome to the delegation and shared her experiences and feelings during her visit to ASEAN countries. When speaking of the tourist industry in Cambodia, Prof. Tao expressed her admiration for its rich tourism resources, such as Angkor Wat. As for the development of tourism, Prof. Tao suggested that the country should focus on optimizing its tourism business environment and building smart cities, where local transportation and tourist facilities are enhanced and tourism services are optimized, to achieve impressive advances in the digital economy.
The delegation visited BRRI and learned about its founding background and development course through the promotional video. Prof. Tao accepted an interview on Vietnam Television.
Then, the delegation stopped over at the History Museum of SZU. Through intelligent digital displays, delegation members had a profound understanding of the history of SZU and enjoyed the enchantment of science and technology.
This event is actually a communication between CCSEZR, BRRI and ASEAN media, of which representatives understood the progress of digital China and aired their views and opinions. The success of this event pushed forward cooperation and communication in the digital economy between China and ASEAN countries.
Background
On December 7, 2022, the seminar on “Digital Economy Ties, A New Chapter in Smart City -- ASEAN Media's Perspective on Digital China Media Tour 2022” was successfully held online. Prof. Tao was invited to the seminar and delivered a keynote speech. Scholars and media representatives from China and ASEAN countries shared their experiences and research results, discussing how to further deepen China-ASEAN digital economy exchanges and cooperation from different perspectives and how to better foster the construction of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area 3.0.
Prof. Tao’s speech received widespread public concern from China Daily, the Cyberspace Administration of Shenzhen and media representatives from ASEAN media.
