SZU Postdoctoral Program in Theoretical Economics Rated “Outstanding” by MOHRSS

In the “Notice on the Results of 2020 Comprehensive Assessment of Postdoctoral Programs” (Renshebu Letter No.120 [2020]) recently issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the PRC (MOHRSS) and China Postdoctoral System, the Postdoctoral Program in Theoretical Economics of Shenzhen University (the Program, SZU) was rated “outstanding” by the MOHRSS.
It is reported that 434 out of 2,993 (14.5%) participating Postdoctoral Programs has been rated outstanding. And 26 out of 147 (17.69%) Postdoctoral Programs from Guangdong province have been rated outstanding.
The Program SZU, founded with the approval of the MOHRSS in October of 2012, has admitted nearly 200 postdoctoral fellows. Statistics show that close to 100 vertical research programs have been granted to the Postdoctoral Program, including: over 20 national programs (4 supported by the National Social Science Fund of China, 14 supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and 4 supported by ministries and commissions); over 50 programs supported by the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, four programs supported by the Philosophy and Social Science Planning and Steering Group of Guangdong province and four programs supported by Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Foundation; Several hundreds of academic papers have been published on prestigious journals including Economic Research Journal in and outside of China.
The Discipline of Theoretical Economics, Shenzhen University (SZU) is a “first-level key discipline” of Guangdong province, and offers first-level doctoral and master programs. The Discipline boasts four milestones that stand out in Shenzhen University: the first and only master program for liberal arts in 1996; the first and only doctoral program for liberal arts in 2006; the first and only doctoral program for the first-level discipline of liberal arts in 2011; the first and only Postdoctoral Program for the first-level discipline of liberal arts in 2012.
This Discipline was founded by Prof. Su Dongbin, a well-known economist, and led by rof. Tao Yitao, former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, SZU, former Secretary of Commission for Discipline Inspection, SZU, Director of the China Center for Special Economic Zone Research (CCSEZR) and President of the Belt and Road Research Institute (Shenzhen) for International Cooperation and Development (BRRI). The Discipline prides itself on a high-caliber research faculty, including: 28 Ph.D. supervisors,one outstanding social scientist of Guangdong province, two chief experts of major projects supported by the National Social Science Fund of China, three recipients of special government allowances of the State Council, one national-level leading scholar of Shenzhen, four recipients of special allowances from Shenzhen government and three new-century excellent talented people of the Ministry of Education.
By combining theories with China’s Reform and Opening-up practices, the SEZ practice in particular, the Discipline aims to explore the general principles of modern economics with focus on theories of market economy. The Discipline of Theoretical Economics keeps pace with the trend of the times and boasts Chinese characteristics while maintaining an international perspective.
