On November 26, “The Third China Lecture: Experience and Enlightenment of Development of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone” was simultaneously held offline in Shenzhen and online via video conference. Main venue of the lecture was located in Shenzhen University. Li Qingquan, President of Shenzhen University, attended the opening ceremony of the lecture and delivered a speech. Li Xinfeng, Standing Vice President of China-Africa Institute, presided over the opening ceremony, speech and interactive engagement. Tao Yitao, President of the Belt and Road Research Institute (Shenzhen) for International Cooperation and Development (BRRI), and Yuan Yiming, Deputy Director of the China Center for Special Economic Zone Research, Shenzhen University (CCSEZR), delivered their speeches in the main venue of the lecture as Chinese keynote speakers. Zambian scholar Staiva Thewo delivered his speech as the African keynote speaker via video conference. Also attending were An Chunying, Standing Associate Editor of West Asia and Africa sponsored by China-Africa Institute, Ma Xueqing, Deputy Director of Scientific Research Department of China-Africa Institute, Han Zhongxue, Deputy President of BRRI, and Han Jun, President Assistant of BRRI. More than 80 people also attended the lecture, including teachers and students from Shenzhen University, and experts, scholars and officials from African countries such as Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, Nigeria, South Africa, Malawi, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The lecture was wholly reported by BRRI’s special media partners including Xinhua News Agency, "Silk Road Story” of Guangdong TV, Tencent News (news.qq.com), and Shenzhen Evening News.
President Li Qingquan delivers a speech
President Li Qingquan expressed in his speech that Shenzhen is the most successful model of China's reform and opening up. Shenzhen’s GDP has increased 10,000 times in only 40 years. This is an economic miracle in human history. A large number of outstanding multinational enterprises, including Huawei and Tencent, were born in this miracle place. He expressed the hope to strengthen the academic exchange and cooperation between Shenzhen University and experts and scholars from African countries via the "China Lecture”. He also briefly introduced the history of Shenzhen University. The university was founded in 1983 and took only one year from the approval of founding to the actual completion. It has created a miracle in the Chinese education history and is the only famous university in China that grows with Shenzhen.
The “China Lecture” was jointly sponsored by the China-Africa Institute and BRRI. BRRI is a private think tank jointly initiated by Shenzhen University and Guangdong Wu Xiao Lan Charity Foundation. BRRI provides "promotion of rapid industrialization experience", "sharing of successful experience of China's Special Economic Zones", and intellectual and soft power support for the implementation of the "Belt and Road Initiative” projects. It has established extensive cooperation with government agencies and think tanks of many countries alongside the "Belt and Road Initiative”, including exchanges and cooperation with Africa. It has worked with the African Development Bank (ADB) to develop operation manuals for Special Economic Zones in African countries.

President Li Xinfeng expressed that Shenzhen has perfectly changed from a small fishing village to an international metropolis in only 40 years and has gone through the journey that international metropolises in other countries took hundreds of years to complete. This is a great miracle created by the Chinese people in the history of world development. The miracle of Shenzhen systematically and comprehensively embodies the brilliant course and great achievements of China's reform and opening-up, and is a wonderful interpretation and great practice of socialism with Chinese characteristics. The “China Lecture” aims to explain to African experts and scholars the development achievements and experiences of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone over the past 40 years from the perspective of institutional reform and innovation, etc.
President Tao Yitao delivers a keynote speech
President Tao Yitao expressed in her speech that the growth history of Shenzhen is not only the development history of this young city, but also the exploration process of China's institutional innovation, the struggle process of the Chinese nation seeking for becoming rich and prosperous, and a unique development path that Chinese people have forged ahead to realize modernization. Shenzhen records and undertakes the practice of China's reform and opening up in the past 40 years with her young development history. In the past 40 years, the development of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone has provided many new and challenging ideas for the Chinese society.
Deputy Director Yuan Yiming delivers a speech
Yuan Yiming, Deputy Director of CCSEZR, expressed in his speech that Shenzhen, as the first Special Economic Zone in China, has the historical mission of being a "window" to the world and an "experimental site" for China's economic reform. It has created a new development miracle in human history. The successful experience of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (SEZ) shows that governments of developing countries should first play a leading role in the construction of SEZs, and then focus on innovation of international industrial division of labor, skillful integration and utilization of innovation resources, rapid development of high-tech industries, and promotion of full participation and innovation capacity of enterprises.
Zambian Scholar Staiva Thewo in his speech
Based on the experience studying abroad in Shenzhen, Zambian scholar Staiva Thewo said in his speech that China always has a plan for everything and demonstrates strong execution. It is no coincidence that Shenzhen can grow from a small fishing village to an international metropolis. Common goal and unified execution have finally achieved the development miracle of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. Development experience of Shenzhen not only has reference value for many countries in the world, but also has an important enlightenment effect on the development model of developing countries. Zambia and Africa should learn from Shenzhen and China the way to apply science and technology to promote the rapid development of their economy and society.

The “China Lecture” was jointly sponsored by China-Africa Institute, Shenzhen University and BRRI, and co-organized by CCSEZR. The sponsor played two videos about the development of Shenzhen before the start of the lecture. After the lecture, Li Xinfeng, on behalf of China-Africa Institute, and Tao Yitao, on behalf of BRRI, signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement.
