On Nov 21 2020, the “China and the World Amid COVID-19 Pandemic” Seminar and 2020 Annual Conference of the Think Tank Consortium of the Key Research Institutes of Humanities and Social Sciences Under the Ministry of Education (TTCKRI) was held in Jinan University. The event was sponsored by the Academy of Overseas Chinese Studies, School of International Studies (AOCS), Jinan University and co-organized by Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University, Russia Research Center of East China Normal University, Wuhan University Institute of International Law, Academy of Overseas Chinese Studies of Jinan University, Center for Studies of Media Development of Wuhan University, Center for Studies of Information Resources of Wuhan University, APEC Study Center of Nankai University, Middle East Studies Institute of Shanghai International Studies University, National Center for Communication Innovation Studies of Communication University of China, and China Center for Special Economic Zone Research (CCSEZR) of Shenzhen University. The event aimed to further explore, through the consortium operating mode and mechanism, the three sub-topics of international relations, international economic cooperation, international communication and public relations amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
At the opening ceremony, Mrs. Rao Min, Vice President of Jinan University, delivered the welcoming speech. Mr. Zhang Zhenjiang, Director of AOCS, made a summary report on the development, academic communications, talent training and international cooperation of the think tank consortium in the past year. With deputy director Dai Fan presiding over the conference, Prof. Zhang on behalf of AOCS, together with Assoc. Prof. Li Fan from CCSEZR conducted the consortium rotating presidency transfer ceremony. Assoc. Prof. Li Fan delivered a speech on behalf of the succeeding sponsor institute.

In the following discussion session, scholars held extensive and in-depth discussions on the three sub-topics of international relations, international economic cooperation, international communication and public relations amid the COVID-19 pandemic; participating scholars in the discussion include Zhang Xin, Assoc. Research Fellow of East China Normal University; Yan Jin, Assoc. Prof. of Renmin University of China; Li Tao, Prof. of Sichuan University; He Xi, Assoc. Prof. of Jinan University; Fan Hongwei, Prof. of Xiamen University; Wu Hao, Prof. of Jilin University; Cui Zheng, Assoc. Prof. of Liaoning University; Zeng Xiangyu, Assoc. Prof. of Sichuan University; Wu Weiwei, Research Fellow of Fujian University; Xiao Jun, Prof. of Wuhan University; Wang Runjue, Assoc. Prof. of Communication University of China; etc. Impacted by the pandemic and unfavorable weather conditions, some scholars were unable to attend the meeting in person. Prof. Song Guoyou of Fudan University, Prof. Liu Chenyang of Nankai University and Prof. Piao Cankui of Yanbian University participated in the discussions and interactions via the online conferencing App Tencent Meeting.

The TTCKRI was officially founded at the Communication University of China on Jan 7, 2017. In the past three years, by revolving around national growth strategy and leveraging the edges of research bases, the consortium members have carried out in-depth scientific researches around leading-edge issues and important theoretical and practical problems, published influential results, and accumulated rich experience in cooperation across universities, institutes and disciplines, thus fulfilling the think tanks’ role in policy consultation, proposal of new ideas and theory innovation.
