On May 8, the unveiling and the “jar sealing ceremony” was rounded out in Shenzhen, which was held by the “Pengzui Club”, a member of the Belt and Road Business Alliance of the Belt and Road Research Institute (Shenzhen) for International Cooperation and Development (BRRI). Key attendees included: Prof. Tao Yitao, Director of the China Center for Special Economic Zone Research (CCSEZR), Shenzhen University (SZU), a key research base of humanities and social science under the Ministry of Education, dean of the Belt and Road Research Institute of Shenzhen University and also dean of the Belt and Road Research Institute (Shenzhen) for International Cooperation and Development (BRRI); Mr. Yang Ronghui, Chairman of Pengzui Liquor Industry Co., Ltd.; Mr. Huang Bai, Chairman of Indonesian Scholarship Program; Mr. Cao Cong, Executive Secretary-General of Shenzhen Foundation for International Exchange and Cooperation (SFIEC); Mr. Luo Senbai, Director of Laos Branch of the BRRI; Prof. Han Zhongxue, Deputy Director of the BRRI; Mr. Liu Xuzhong, Secretary-General of the Belt and Road Business Alliance of the BRRI; and Ms. Xie Yifei, the producer of "The Silk Road Story" program of GRT Satellite Channel.

On the afternoon of May 8, the guests first attended the inauguration of “the BRRI Friendship Woods” under the pleasant weather. Embosomed with lush mountains and witnessed by all the attendees of the ceremony, Prof. Tao and other key guests planted the guest-greeting pines, which symbolize a long-lasting friendship, and inaugurated “the BRRI Friendship Woods”.

After the inauguration, the guests visited the Pengzui distillery, where the “Pengzui Club” is located and the key guests participated in the “jar sealing ceremony” that symbolizes friendship and the prospect of cooperation. Prof. Tao delivered a speech at the event. She said that Pengzui is the only liquor company in Shenzhen with a self-owned brand. Its development history is not only full of legendary and touching stories, but also a reflection of the Shenzhen Spirit. The BRRI and Pengzui have been acquainted with each other since last year. Over the course of a year, the two sides have kept getting to know each other better and constantly looking for room and models for value recognition, cooperation, and joint development. The BRRI also witnessed the rapid growth of Pengzui and the improvement of its corporate culture. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (SEZ). In such a special period, it is of far-reaching significance for the BRRI and Pengzui, a company with a self-owned brand which has grown up in Shenzhen and reflected the innovation of Shenzhen, to sign the agreement of becoming a member of the Belt and Road Business Alliance. The theme of this event was to " Sip & Savor: Convergence Towards a Global Culture". The exclusive liquor is not only a beautiful symbol of “made in Shenzhen” and innovation in Shenzhen, but also a sign of unique spirit and culture of Shenzhen. It was such unique corporate culture in Shenzhen that enabled us to incorporate global cultures into this open, inclusive, and innovative city.

At the end of the event, Prof. Tao further indicated in the interview that the growth of Pengzui reflected the development history of Shenzhen and it also shows how enterprises in Shenzhen build their brands and innovate. Therefore, what Pengzui shows is not only the development of liquor brewing industry, but also the growth of private entrepreneurs and local enterprises in Shenzhen, and even a kind of spirit of Shenzhen, which is innovation, persistence, commitment, bonds and a sense of responsibility for the nation. She also said that in the future, the BRRI will join hands with Pengzui, in response to the "Belt and Road Initiative", jointly introduce and spread this spirit and the unique culture to the countries along the Belt and Road, and learn about the essence of those countries' culture from flavor of liquors. This kind of “Going Global” is not only about culture, but also about spirit and belief. It’s believed that in the process of going global, liquor companies with a self-owned brand in Shenzhen will have stronger culture and innovation in place by understanding and embracing the diverse cultures of the countries along the Belt and Road.

At the end of the event, Prof. Han Zhongxue, Deputy Director of the BRRI, on behalf of the BRRI, signed the membership agreement of the Belt and Road Business Alliance with Mr. Yang Ronghui, Chairman of Pengzui Liquor Industry Co., Ltd. (“Pengzui”), which marked that the Pengzui officially joined the Belt and Road Business Alliance. Following that, Prof. Tao inaugurated the “Pengzui Club” and the ceremony came to a successful conclusion.

As a new type of nongovernmental think tank focusing on the "Belt and Road Initiative", the BRRI is inviting more excellent enterprises with corporate accountability to join the Belt and Road Business Alliance, which has now evolved into a great open platform with strong union of state-owned enterprises, private enterprises, and think tanks. Looking ahead, the BRRI will be committed to the cause of global development and prosperity of humankind in a bid to for "common prosperity and inclusive development", so as to introduce China to the world as well as the other way around.
