On August 8, 2019, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Consulates General in Guangzhou held a reception marking the 52nd anniversary of the founding of the ASEAN in Guangzhou. Prof. Tao Yitao was invited to attend the event. She is director of CCSEZR in Shenzhen University, a key research base for Humanities and Social Sciences under the Ministry of Education, president of the Belt and Road Research Institute of SZU and also president of the Belt and Road Research Institute (Shenzhen) for International Cooperation and Development (BRRIICD).. Associate Prof. Li Fan, Assistant to Director of CCSEZR also attended the event.
Lu Yi, Consul-General of Philippines in Guangzhou, delivered a welcome speech. He indicated that China-ASEAN relation has consistently flourished since the establishment of their strategic partnership, and the ASEAN Consulates General in Guangzhou will continue to bridge further exchanges and cooperation between ASEAN and Guangdong in more fields for mutual benefits. Luo Juan, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of Guangdong province, attended the reception and delivered a speech. She said that Guangdong province is happy to further strengthen connectivity with ASEAN countries, and to conduct economic and trade cooperation and cultural exchanges so as to promote solid cooperation in all fields.
Deng Shixiong, Consul-General of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Guangzhou, and Ruan Chengli, Deputy Consul-General, thanked CCSEZR for its significant consulting role in the construction of Vietnam’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs), and made in-depth discussion with Prof. Tao about the development experience of China’s SEZs, the Belt and Road Initiative and China-Vietnam cooperation and exchanges. Consul-Generals of ASEAN in Guangzhou including Cai Denghe of Singapore, and Somlith Khantivong of Lao People's Democratic Republic also showed their interest in conducting more in-depth exchanges and cooperation with CCSEZR
